Factory Reset Kindle Fire Tablet

Important: Resetting your gadget will remove all content downloaded to it. Any content that is already saved to the Cloud will remain in the Cloud. You can download that content again if you register a device to your Amazon account again.

To reset the Fire Tablet:

  • Scroll down from the top of the screen and tap Settings.

  • Click Device Options, and then click Reset to Factory Defaults at the bottom of the screen. Underneath it says, "Remove all Personal data and download content from your Fire."

  • The "Factory Data Reset" warning box opens up and says, "You are about to reset your Kindle to factory defaults, which will remove all of your personal information, Amazon account information, downloaded content, and applications. Tap Reset to confirm.

It will take a few minutes to finish restoring the tablet to its basic state and will reboot itself.

Congratulations! The Kindle Fire has now been reset to factory defaults!

Reset with lock screen password

If a password or PIN is set on the Kindle Fire, you can still reset it to factory default.

Important: Battery must be at least 30% charged.

To reset the Fire Tablet:

  1. On the lock screen, swipe from the right side edge of the screen.

  2. From the lock screen, enter the wrong password or PIN five times.

  3. After the 5th incorrect attempt, a notification will appear with options to wait 30 seconds, reset your PIN, or factory reset your device.

  4. Tap Reset to reset your kindle device to factory defaults.
